How a Strong Mother's Struggle Shaped My Passion for Neuromuscular Therapy and Pain Relief

About Lashaundra Thompson - Expert Neuromuscular Therapist

I’m Lashaundra, a dedicated neuromuscular therapist specializing in soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, and effective pain management. My journey into the field of massage therapy is deeply personal and rooted in my experiences growing up with a hardworking single mother. Through years of learning, certifications, and hands-on practice, I’ve developed a passion for helping people heal from the inside out and regain control of their bodies.

In October 2024, I earned certifications in Abdominal & Psoas techniques and Rotator Cuff & Shoulder Pain, both from Robert Gardner Wellness LLC, alongside an Intensive Neck Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) certification from Rebecca Ward Massage Solutions. I’m also a certified Myofascial Expert through Callidae Manus, giving me a comprehensive understanding of fascia and muscle tissue and how they contribute to chronic pain. These specialized certifications reflect my commitment to learning and advancing in the field, ensuring I’m always equipped with the best tools to help my clients.

But my path to becoming a therapist began long before I entered formal training. As the oldest of five children, I watched my mother—an incredibly strong and resilient single parent—work long, grueling hours on an assembly line to provide for our family. She would return home late at night, exhausted, her feet sore and swollen from standing for hours. As a child, I instinctively began massaging her feet to help relieve her pain and help her unwind. Those moments, spent offering her some comfort after her long shifts, sparked something in me—a deep desire to use my hands to help people feel better.

It wasn’t until later that I realized how much that early experience shaped my future. In 2014, I made the decision to pursue my passion for healing touch and enrolled at Gwinnett College in Lilburn, Georgia. I graduated with honors in 2015, knowing that massage therapy was not just a career—it was my calling. During my time at Gwinnett, I learned not only the foundational techniques of bodywork but also how to approach the body as a complex system where each muscle, tendon, and joint works together to create movement and stability.

After graduation, I began working in chiropractic offices, where I further refined my understanding of anatomy and kinesiology. I gained invaluable experience working with clients who suffered from neck pain, back pain, shoulder injuries, and a range of other musculoskeletal issues. This practical experience deepened my belief in the effectiveness of Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), a technique that targets trigger points and muscle imbalances to release tension and restore normal function. I also incorporate myofascial release into my treatments, which helps to address restrictions in the fascia— the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs—improving overall mobility and reducing pain.

My approach to therapy is holistic and personalized. I believe that everybody is unique, and I work closely with each client to develop a tailored treatment plan that addresses their specific needs. Whether you’re dealing with the aftermath of an injury, suffering from chronic tension, or simply seeking to improve your overall mobility, my goal is to provide you with lasting relief and better quality of life.

As someone who experienced firsthand the power of touch to provide comfort and healing, I’m deeply committed to helping my clients achieve their wellness goals. From managing shoulder pain to relieving neck tension or improving flexibility, I use a combination of techniques to address both the symptoms and the root causes of pain. My mission is to help you live pain-free, with improved mobility and a greater sense of well-being.

If you’re looking for an experienced therapist who understands the intricate relationship between muscles, fascia, and the nervous system—and who cares deeply about helping you feel your best—I’m here to support you on your journey toward better health.
